Thai cogen plant comes online

A new gas-fired cogeneration plant in Thailand has come online, its developer has announced.

Independent power producer Gulf Energy’s 130 MW Gulf Tasit 3 (GTS3) plant in Rayong province is located on 40,000 square metres in the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Pluak Daeng district.

It is now set to supply 32.8 MWe and 25 tonnes per hour of process steam to industrial users in the area, Gulf Energy said.

Sterling & Wilson plans to build 500MW solar projects in Australia

Sterling & Wilson, an India-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services provider for infrastructure and energy sectors, has announced it plans to construct 500MW of solar projects in Australia in the coming three years.

These solar projects would require A$600m ($459m) of investment. The company aims to offset 750,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually by constructing solar power plants.

Sterling & Wilson stated that the solar power projects would generate more than 750 jobs during the construction process.

Chinese group signs deal to build 200 MW cogeneration plant in Serbia

The new plant that will burn natural gas to produce power and heat will be a joint venture between NIS, majority owned by Russia’s Gazprom Neft, and Gazprom Energoholding, a subsidiary of Russian gas giant Gazprom, in which the two firms will hold 49 and 51 percent stake respectively.

It is estimated to cost 180 million euros ($210 million), NIS said in a statement.

Is new Bloomberg HQ world’s greenest building?

Business and financial news company Bloomberg has officially opened its £1 billion (AU$1.72b) European HQ in London, a building it has labelled the world’s most sustainable.

The Foster + Partners-designed HQ is spread across two 10-storey buildings on a 3.2-acre (13,000 square metre) site, and will consolidate 4000 London-based staff, with room for 6500.

Part of the “world’s most sustainable” claim comes from a BREEAM sustainability assessment score of 98.5 per cent, the highest ever design-stage score achieved by a large-scale office.

Cogeneration plants have long suffered from belonging fully to neither the energy supply industry or the consumer whose site they supply.
